Description of An Authentic Movement Experience:
Curious about what an Authentic Movement session could look like? It may look like this.

Here, you as the viewer get to act as the witness, and I the mover.
I allow nature to inspire my movement. This movement has not been choreographed, rehearsed or pre-planned. I allowed my senses to become curious about my environment and how my body reacted in exploration to what was physically evoked in me. I noticed the warmth of the sun, which created images of sunbeams and the image of the sun moving from East to West, which in turn affects the water, tides and growth of the trees surrounding me. I allowed the sunbeams to pour through me, liquid, warm and bright. I noticed internal growth, seeking for brightness, excitement with growth and a tinge of grief as darkness approaches. In many ways, this imagery, in personal reflection, simulates my current emotional being, as I am broadening and expanding towards the possibilities of increasing movement opportunities to my local and online community, navigate some growing pains, and fear the dark concept of failure.
During a group authentic movement session, we would start with a guided meditation to increase our awareness of our internal sensations, or how our bodies are responding to both our internal and external environments. Images may or may not occur for us. There is no right or wrong way to experience this. We would begin moving from sensation, over direction. This then expands differently for each person. For beginner/all level classes, we may use physical objects such as scarves, pictures or other prompts to support the development of inspiration and reflection, and for intermediate/advanced classes, we will focus on broadening our internal experience without external direction. All groups will be completed through either verbal, written or artistic reflection in order to integrate our experiences, improving self insight, growth and self awareness.
